Mission Beach is gearing up to promote its nature-based tourism experiences thanks to a grant provided by Terrain NRM and funded through the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme. Local community group Mission Beach Cassowaries successfully applied for the Community NRM grant to create a new website and free 16 page colour brochure promoting the areas environmental assets. |
The funding will be used to market the area as a nature-based destination to attract more visitors and encourage them to stay longer.
It is also hoped that the website and booklet will also encourage local residents to see the value in protecting the natural environment.
The process of collating information on the areas nature-based tours and activities is already underway. A workshop facilitated by Terrain with Mission Beach Tourism, CCRC, C4, QPWS, WTMA, nature based tourism operators and Traditional Owners will agree on the formatand content of the website and booklet.
The group is planning to engage a photographer, graphic artist and website developer.
Locals wishing to contribute with in-kind work are encouraged to make contact in order to keep costs down and maximise the benefits from the campaign.
Liz Gallie, President of Mission Beach Cassowaries Inc said, “The funding to produce the website and colour booklet is greatly appreciated. We will be liaising with Mission Beach Tourism about the success of the project to inform possible future editions, monitor stock supply at booklet outlets and maintain the website.”
The in-kind contribution to the project by the community group Mission Beach Cassowaries
Inc is $5030 and funding through the Community NRM grant is $5577.
