In the Mission Beach area, urban development is contributing to significant ongoing decline of the small cassowary population

What makes Mission Beach special?
  • the natural environment,
  • laid back village atmosphere,
  • Low rise development, and...
  • the cassowary
How can we protect those things?

 The  current regional plan vision is good for Mission Beach
We can all reinforce the vision in the new plan

Your say WILL make a difference!

Some of the points you could include in your survey response are;

  • Keep Mission Beach a village activity centre  to protect our laid back village atmosphere and lifestyle
  • Tully and Innisfail are the appropriate growth areas for  the Cassowary Coast.
  • Keep Building heights low
  • No rezoning of rural land for urban expansion - protect all remaining good quality agricultural land at Mission Beach (including smaller blocks) for high value niche farming and tourism opportunities.
  • Develop a 'unique to the area' low impact tourism industry based on appreciation of the natural environment. i e birding, boutique farm tourism, nature tours

"In the Mission Beach area, urban development is contributing to significant ongoing decline of the small cassowary population. Current urban impacts upon cassowaries and their habitat—especially increasing losses due to road traffic and dog attacks—are not believed to be sustainable. These areas are not considered appropriate for high-density urban development." (Far North Queensland Regional Plan 2009–2031)
