The Mission Beach community successfully campaigned against a residential subdivision on  Lot 66. The then Federal Environemtn Minister, Peter Garrett found the development to be clearly unacceptable under the EPBC Act. Lot 66 is now  protected as a Nature Reserve under the Queensland Nature Conservation Act
