The Mission Beach community has a strong connection with the exceptional amenity of the Clump Point and Boat Bay area.
The high ecological cultural and heritage values of the Clump Point land and sea environment are well documented. There has been no proven need for a development that would forever destroy the superlative beauty at the gateway between two world heritage areas. Why destroy Mission Beach's most valued tourism asset, the natural environment? The proponent promotional documents are long, descriptive and wordy, but have not been written as an Environmental impact statement (EIS). They lack rigour, important facts and detail. The ugly breakwater planned for the end of the Perry Harvey Jetty would create erosion and siltation, undermining the intended purpose and would require ongoing maintenance on an open lee shore exposed to cyclones. The reclamation of Boat Bay would bury a Traditional Owner cultural heritage site (fish trap) under a boat trailer park. This inappropriate development has been forced on the Mission Beach community without being subjected to an open independent consultation process. The impact of this intrusive development would have an unacceptable adverse impact on the cultural and heritage values of Clump Point and its environs. I ask GBRMPA to refuse a permit for the overtopping breakwater at the Perry Harvey Jetty and the carpark reclamation at the Clump Point boat ramp. |
The park would totally block the view over the bay enjoyed by both local and visitor sightseers at the main recreational departure point to the islands and reef.
