Post cyclone clean-up

Enough mulch to fill a football field to higher than the light towers

Mountains of mulch has been  processed from green waste in the Cassowary Coast region.

More than 420,000 tonnes of green waste has so far been collected in the Cassowary Coast region.  The green waste has been processed into 200,000 cubic metres of mulch, which is free to residents from their local transfer stations.

The 200,000 cubic metres would fill a football field and reach the 34m-high mark, which is about 10m above the lights.

Council crews have so far collected equivalent to 10 standard years’ supply of green waste.  The busiest areas have been Tully with 12,000 truck movements, Mission Beach with 11,000 truck movements and Cardwell with 7000 truck movements.
(Cassowary Coast Regional Council media release Tuesday March 29 2011)

325,000 cubic metres of green waste removed
